Why Invest in Garage Door Locks

You might realize that it is important to have the right locks installed for your home. However, you may not realize just how important it is for your garage door to also have a lock, especially if you have a free-standing garage. If you’re thinking that you don’t live in your garage and therefore do not require a lock, you’re mistaken. If you can gain immediate access into your home for your garage, you may require an additional lock installed. If you use your garage for more than parking your car, you might want to consider a lock. Some people use their garage as an extension of their homes. Some garages are used for home gyms, office space, artist gallery, music studio, and even a daycare. In some cases, you’re garage door may have been left open or the garage door opener may have malfunctioned causing the door to open back up without your even knowing it. • Deadbolt Locks – They add reinforcement to any door. The door can only be unlocked once the lock has been move to open. The lock cylinder is rotated to disengage the lock. The deadbolt lock has either a double or single cylinder lock. Single cylinder locks require a key to open unlock from one side with a door knob on the opposite side. The double cylinder requires a key for both sides of the lock to open the door. This is a much more secure lock than a spring bolt lock. If enough pressure is applied to a spring bolt lock, it can easily be compromised. This isn’t the case with a deadbolt lock. It requires a lot more force to comprise. Most people won’t take the time needed to do so and will usually abandon the job once they realize their efforts aren’t working.

When you are considering keeping others out of your garage but having easy access for you and members of your household to easily come and go, another lock you might consider is an electronic lock. This is when a keypad is placed on the outside of your garage door. The owner must either create a code that can be input or use a fob card to open the garage. The best thing about having an electronic lock is that you don’t have to worry about losing the key and someone in the neighborhood finding it. If someone finds it, they could go around the neighborhood until they have figured out exactly who the key belongs to. Rather than taking unnecessary chances with someone breaking into your garage, why not consider the various types of electric locks that are available to you.

There is one more garage door that you may forget about. This is rare in most newer homes but there are some garages that have a door in the back that may lead to your backyard. This is one of the doors that we often notice does not have a lock. Just like the door that leads into your home, if you are going to be able to protect the things you have inside your garage, including your car, it is a good idea to also place a durable lock on the door in the back of your garage. Just imagine someone getting inside your garage and just waiting for someone to come out. This could spell tragedy for anyone who meets with a stranger inside their garage. Once they have made their way inside your garage, it wouldn’t be too difficult for them to get inside your home. Rather than taking any unnecessary chances with your safety and security, do yourself a favor and invest a good, durable lock for your garage doors.
